| FLC Music Department Fall Band and Choir Concert This concert, so close to Halloween, will feature Gorgons, Manticores, Ghosts, and Demons. But fear not; there will also be Unicorns, Stardancing, and sacred texts.
Dr. Charissa Chiaravalloti will open the concert with the choirs. The Chamber Choir will be first to take the stage, performing selections from Gian Carlos Menotti's "The Unicorn, the Gorgon, and the Manticore". Menotti said that this work is “aimed at the dilettantes in art, who go along with fashion trends but don’t really have the courage to feel or to make their own judgments.”
The Concert Choir follows with some Halloween inspired music; "Dance of Ghosts" (Le Ballet des Ombres) by Hector Berlioz, Daemon Irrepit Callidus by Gyorgy Orban, and "That Old House is Ha'nted" by Jester Hairston, and works by Pavel Tschesnokoff and Ola Gjeilo. After a brief intermission to re-set the stage, the Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Mark Walters, will continue the Halloween feel with Eric Whitacre's Ghost Train, and Julie Groux's "Khan" They will also perform Michael Sweeney's "Stardance" as well as Arabescue, written by Samuel Hazo, this year's guest conductor for our annual select band clinic which takes place February 1-2, 2013. ![]()
