Fort Lewis College Theatre Department continues its 2017-18 season with Urinetown: The Musical – a show with a horrible title but a hilarious story about a town with a terrible water shortage issue that has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The townsfolk must pay to use public amenities and the revolution begins.
Urinetown: The Musical, written by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis and directed by FLC Theatre’s Ginny Davis, satirizes the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself. It parodies musicals such as West Side Story, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Evita, Three Penny Opera, Les Miserables and many other famous musicals. Winner of three Tony Awards, Urinetown is an earnest tale of love, greed, and revolution—a humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny.
