Jarabe Mexicano has burst onto the World Music scene. True to their name, Jarabe Mexicano performs a mixture of traditional as well as popular genres that appeal to audiences of all ages. While their renditions of Rancheras, Huapangos, Sones, and Boleros fill their listeners with nostalgia, their spirited arrangements of Cumbia, Reggae, and Rock & Roll frequently bring people to their feet. Celebrate Día de los Muertos with dynamic arrangements of cumbia, reggae, and rock & roll hits with the hot Latin music band committed to honoring the past while embracing the future.
The ensemble features lead vocalist Gustavo Alcoser, Mario Eguía on requinto, Kevin Lomes on vihuela, Chris Behrens on guitarrón, Alejandro Tapia on percussion and guitar, and Carlos Arellano on accordion. As artists and trained music educators, some members of Jarabe Mexicano have also established strong ties to local community organizations including the City Heights Music School, the Road Scholar Senior Education program, and other public school arts programs throughout San Diego.Jarabe Mexicano is supported by Colorado Creative Industries, WESTAF, the Western Starts Arts Federation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
